Jaks

"What quality and refinement.  So well balanced.  Well angulated front and rear.  Just the right length of body to height.  Classic head and perfect reach of neck.  Moved with a long free drive.  His outline was perfection, his coat gleaming with health and he moved in perfect harmony with his owner.  I could watch him all day - and I see that he has already made his mark as a competent sire .  Not just a pretty face.  Stood away from the rest."

(Jak is pictured on the far left at 12 years of age, with his son, grandson and great grandson)

Jak was born on 16 December 1992.  He was sired by the influential import, American and Australian Ch. Boondox Jumping Jack Flash (Imp USA) and his dam was the incomparable Ch. Lohengrin Flame.  The only male puppy from a litter of eight, “Jak” commenced his winning in the ring at a very early age.  He won his first Best In Show All Breeds at the tender age of 10 months, and continued to make his presence felt for the next six years.  As a puppy he won such prestigious awards as the South Australia Dogtainers Puppy of the Year, and the Australiasian Eukanuba Puppy of the year final in Melbourne.

“Jak’s” first appearance at a National Dachshund Specialty was at the 3rd National held in Brisbane in 1994.  He came away with the Reserve CC, whilst his full sister Ch Keaton Flamboyant went on to win Best In Show.  At the 4th National held in Melbourne in 1996 he went on to Best In Show under American Specialist Mrs Jeanine Sudinski, with his son Ch. Keaton Jak Daniels, being Reserve CC to him.  His full sisters Ch. Keaton Light Up the Sky and Ch. Keaton Flamboyant, being Bitch and Reserve Bitch CC winners.  In 1997 the 5th National was hosted by the Novocastrian Dachshund Club in Newcastle, where “Jak” went on to win Reserve Best In Show, his grandson, Ch. Imlay Samradh Leus, being Reserve CC to him.  Then finally his last appearance at a National Specialty in Adelaide 2000, at the age of seven and half, he was again awarded Best In Show.  Once again at this National, his son, Ch. Lohengrin Adonnis, was Reserve CC, his full sister Ch. Keaton Flamboyant, Bitch CC, and her daughter, Ch. Keaton Klassique, Reserve CC.

“Jak” won Best of Breed at Royal Shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.  In 1996 he went on to win the Hound Group at The Melbourne Royal Show, with his son, Ch. Lohengrin Adonnis, winning  “Puppy in Group”.  He was South Australia’s Hound of the Year in both 1995 and 1996.  History was made when “Jak” and his son Ch Keaton Hijaked, became the Supreme Champion and Runner-up Supreme Champion at the South Australian ABattle of the Champions in 1995.  “Jak” was to repeat his win at this event again in 1996. Not only a sensational show dog “Jak” is still proving himself as a sire extraordinaire.  He has sired Champions in all States of Australia, who have been very successful in both the All Breeds and Specialty rings.

It has been an honour to have owned and shown “Jak” and we thank all the judges and his supporters for the lovely memories. We would like to also acknowledge our friend the late Rhonda Berge-Phillips who entrusted us with Flame and along with Judy and Alan Poulton brought J J to Australia.
